Royal Tandoor Is Now Open in Gaithersburg

If you’ve never had the pleasure of trying Indian street food, let Chef Neel Kamal of Royal Tandoor introduce you. The local restaurateur—who already runs an eatery nearby in Kentlands—just opened the doors to a fresh venture in Gaithersburg. The spot specializes in street food-inspired bites and modern chef creations, which join a long list of traditional Indian dishes on the menu. Start by sharing a few of the signature small plates such as the pani puri, which are dough balls stuffed with chickpeas, potatoes, and sweet chutney, or the palak chaat, crispy fried spinach tossed with tomatoes, onions, and house-made sauces. Just make sure you save enough room for one of the chef’s larger specialty dishes—perhaps the slightly sweet crab mango curry or the grilled tandoori lobster masala. The menu also encompasses a large roster of more conventional Indian dishes, including ample vegan and vegetarian options. Don’t forget to take a look at the drink list, as well! Royal Tandoor is known for its selection of Scotch and whiskey, but the bartender also whips up creative cocktails and pours glasses of fine wine and beer.
